Padhar is One Man Army
The Padhar tribes are centred in and around the the lakes and fertile areas of Ahmedabad, Nal Sarovar in Bhal region and Surencranagar.Nalsarovar is one heavan for the bird. This tribal community has migrated from Sindh. The Padhar tribes are distributed mainly in some areas like DEvadthal, Shahpur, Dharji, Sahiyal, Nam Katechi, Ralal, Ranagadh, Parnala, Parali, Anandpur and Godi of Ahmedabad. The language of the Padhar tribal groups is popularly known as Pardhi. Some of them are also well conversant in Gujarati language. The Padhar community is divided in various clans that are Bhuwatra, Domda, Pachani, Lalni, Samatiya, Devhala, Vatra, Sapra, Tarajiya, Dharijiya, Tanhada, Kanotara etc. Marriages are prohibited among the Tarajiya and Vatra, Lalni and Pachani tribal communities as they share fraternity bonds among themselves.
The Padhar tribes are basically non vegetarians and their meals include ample consumption of meats and fish though they prefer to include several pulses in their regular diet. Their staple foods are rice and jawar. They prepare a dish known as `khichri` with rice for their tiffin in the evening.
The culture of a community is identified by the art and cultural sides they exhibit. Amongst the various yardsticks that can be used to understand it, artistic acumen is quite an important one. In fact, there is a plethora of artistic products that these Padhar tribes have made. Colorful clothes, animal figures forms are some of the exquisite items that have got demands in the whole of the region and also in the rest of the country.

Though the Padhar tribal community is basically land owning community many of them are landless. Among the landowners, moth, moong, cotton, paddy, jowar, millet, paddy and wheat are cultivated. Apart from cultivation and doing labour works, some are engaged in fishing. Moreover, the Padhar people also earn their livings by digging roots, grass cutting, labouring in fields, hunting animals and some are also engaged in government and private services.
The people of Padhar community are basically the followers of Hindu religion and their main deities are Hinglaj mata, Jhupali, Kalika, Meladi, But Mata, Verai mata, Mahakali, Maladi, Chamunda, Khodiyar mata.Nalsarovar is one heavan for the bird.They consider these deities as the forms of Shakti. Apart from worshipping the goddesses, they revere Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva, Swaminarayan and Lord Ram. The people of this community go to the temples and shrines to worship the deities. A temple of Hinglaj Mata is situated in the village of the Padhar tribes.

There is also no dearth of festivals in the Padhar tribal community. During the festive seasons, the mood of frenzy and festivity is being hyped with lots of dancing, music and merry making. Padhar dance is one of the important dance forms that have been popular amongst the whole of the Padhar community. In it, performers replicate the recurring movements of wandering mariners and the rising and falling of the sea waves. The men and women of this community take part in Dandiaras and Garba. Other tribal communities who live in the adjoining regions have adapted to some of the cultural elements of this Padhar tribal community. The people celebrate Navaratri, Holi, Satam, Dhuleti, Atham, Dussehra, Rakhi etc.
The Padhar tribal community is jovial, cultural and social people. They are religious and are the worshipper of various gods and goddesses including Hindu deities and local tribal deities.
Nalsarovar is heaven for the Bird
It we had the task of designing a multi-purpose animal that could exploit many habitats. We would be hard pressed to improve upon the birds of the wetlands.Near Nalsarovar Padhar Religion are live. We can see that they are at home in water, land and ofcourse superb in the air. In places like the Nalsarovar and Thol lake they are seen in great numbers, the variety of shapes and sizes being simply amazing.
The best time to reach there is before Dawn as the lake is calm & calm & flock of birds waiting for their regular food. The water in the lake is only about five feet deep & the boatmen are friendly guides. The sizable lake comprises of several places of interest. You might find the original Gujarati Food in its simplest form & yet so yummy at of the bet(small islands between the lake).

You can take a Horse Ride with numerous white & brown horses at the lake side.Migrating Bharwad shepherds populates the islands of the lake & on the banks are the Padhars, who are excellent folk dancers, artisans & boatmen. can hire country boats on the lake for bird viewing, & picnic at shacks the on the islands.
The Beauty of the Nature:
Nalsarovar are aviary has birds from home and abroad flying here to nest on its islands. There are about 300 species of birds. From December to the end of March tourists flock to, this 182 sq km lake with 360 islands to see the Pelicans, Flamingos, Various species of Ducks, White Cranes, Herons, Evomets, long-beaked curlews and other birds. At mornings and evenings, it is an added pleasure to watch the birds from boats.During full-moons and starry nights, the beauty of the lake robs the onlookers of their sleep.
· It is easy to notice the sheer variety of color, pattern and a cacophony of sounds that these birds use for recognition and courtship. They can be seen using the same devices for threats and aggression as they vie with each other for nesting and feeding space. There just cannot be anyplace where one can see so much wildlife in a single day! A pair of binoculars and a person well versed in local bird life will surely make this one of the best outings.
· How To Go To Nalsarovar :
· Gujarat has some outstanding places for viewing birds of the wetlands. Just 80 km. from Ahmadabad is Nalsarovar, and Thol wildlife Sanctuary is also just 40 km. from Ahmedabad.It is 10 km. from Jamnagar is Khijadia Bird Sanctuary. Within the Porbandar city itself is the Porbandar Bird Sanctuary. Padhar are great culture and more popular in Ras Garba in Navratri festival and also faith in the Zupadi maa .The sheer variety that can be seen at such places is rewarding by any standards. Here you will see kingfishers, egrets, darters, storks and cormorants spear or catch fish with their dagger shaped beaks. You will also get to see jacanas, moorhens, coots, grebes and ducks feeding mainly on plants, straining water from their specially designed beaks and keeping the food in.
Nalsarovar is a seasonal lake spread over an area of 115 sp.km. It is known to harbor more than 250 species of birds. In winter the migratory birds descend on the Nal in their thousands. Visitors are ferried in small boats and to experience a sunrise or a sunset while gliding gently through the silent waters, with birds silhouetted in the golden orange glow will lift any sagging spirits.
